Two-Day School Safety and Gun Violence Prevention Summit
January 30 & 31, 2025 – Clifford Beers Community Care Center (CBCCC) in collaboration with New Haven Public Schools (NHPS) and The National Center for School Safety (NCSS) hosted a two-day School Safety and Gun Violence Prevention Summit, bringing together students, educators, community leaders, and safety professionals to address critical issues surrounding school safety and youth empowerment.

The summit took place at two locations: the Clifford Beers Community Care Center (CBCCC) Dixwell and Southern Connecticut State University (SCSU). The event aimed to provide both adult stakeholders and students with practical tools, strategies, and action plans to foster safer school environments in the wake of rising concerns about school safety and gun violence.

Farnam Biddy Basketball Developmental League:
New and Improved Approach: We are excited to announce a new and improved approach to the Farnam Community Center Biddy Basketball Program! Starting this season, we will be transitioning from a traditional basketball league to a developmental-based league designed to provide a more enriching experience for all players.

New League Director: To help us with the new and improved approach to the Farnam Community Center Biddy Basketball Program we are thrilled to welcome Coach Aaron “Goggles” Brooks as our new Biddy Basketball League Director!

Why the Change? Our goal is to create a more inclusive, skill-focused environment where every child has the opportunity to grow, learn, and build confidence in their abilities. By shifting to a developmental model, we can:

✅ Focus on Fundamentals – Teaching essential basketball skills in a structured way
✅ Welcome All Skill Levels – Ensuring every child, whether beginner or experienced, feels supported
✅ Promote Healthy Growth – Prevent injuries through proper mechanics and training
✅ Encourage Leadership & Teamwork – Instilling sportsmanship, confidence, and resilience
✅ Strengthen Community Engagement – Providing opportunities for parents and mentors to get involved

This new format will still include fun, competitive play, but with an added focus on skill-building sessions, mentorship, and learning the game in a way that sets children up for long-term success—on and off the court.
